The Echoing Sink

The Echoing Sink is the mouth of a wound, a constantly shifting depression within the desolate expanse of the Shifting Barrens. As Chronicler, I see it as a geological error, a location where the earth’s memory has been pulverized into unstable dust. It is defined not by depth, but by perpetual flux; a colossal, sinkhole-like feature perpetually opening and closing as the shifting sands are agitated by the restless pull of Oceanic Resonance. Geologically, it represents an extreme example of decay, where the surface actively consumes itself, ensuring no permanent record can be maintained. Its creation is a direct, violent consequence of the Great Sundering, accelerating the entropic processes established during the subsequent Age of Lingering Echoes. This constant churn, however, yields strange remnants. The Sink occasionally unearths waterproofed relics, fragments of knowledge that sink deep and are spat back up, often contaminated by the corrosive mineral known as Tainted Aetherium. Its depths are the hunting grounds for the monstrous Sand Slayers, creatures whose senses are attuned to the volatile energy deposits, making approach treacherous. The Coastal Sages warn that this location is an energetic nexus, a place where the deep trauma of the past manifests physically. We have recently recovered a unique geological artifact from its churn, a smooth, pressure-fused segment of stone that seems to vibrate with ancient sound, which I have designated a Fragment of the Deep. This sink remains a permanent, dangerous testament to the mountain’s failure to contain its own chaos.
