The Tidal Lenses
The Tidal Lenses are designated Artifact 5.11 in our Post-Schism Recovery Index, though their provenance is wholly alien to the deep stone. These are not merely optical instruments, but carefully shaped, hydro-treated crystal discs, designed not to magnify sight, but to interpret the chaotic flow of Oceanic Resonance. They function by actively refracting the fluid energy into predictable patterns, allowing the user to foresee seismic or destructive weather volatility. These artifacts were primarily employed by the Coastal Sages along the Western coast of the Iron-Grip Mountains, who required them for safe passage during the volatile era preceding the Great Sundering. Their continued study is crucial for monitoring external threats, as they offer the only reliable foresight into events like the cyclical Tide of Drowning. Their precision relies upon specialized knowledge encoded in their frames, a forgotten technique known as Resonance Refraction, which allows them to safely view the destructive energy flows of corrupted, submerged Aetherium nodes near locations like the ruins of Aethelgard’s Quay. They are a testament that even the most unpredictable chaos (water) can be quantified, provided the correct instruments are utilized; a lesson the deep Abbey must incorporate to survive the unpredictable surface world.
