Brother Omnal
Brother Omnal is not a figure of great renown within the Dwarven Abbey, nor is his name etched into the most prominent pages of Elder Borin's Chronicles. He is, rather, a quiet presence, a steadfast member of the brotherhood whose contributions lie not in grand pronouncements or daring feats, but in the meticulous upkeep of the Abbey’s extensive archives. Omnal is a dwarf of the Stoneguard clan, a lineage known more for its dedication to duty than for scholarly pursuits. He oversees the Vault of Whispers, ensuring that the delicate balance of knowledge is preserved.
Omnal is not known to be a Truthseeker, although he respects their visions and carefully records their utterances. Instead, his talent lies in organization, in the painstaking cataloging and cross-referencing of countless scrolls and tablets. Some suggest that he may have a connection to a new location, the Mirror Chamber of Omnal, located within the vaults. He takes great pride in his work, viewing himself as a guardian of the Abbey’s intellectual heritage. Unlike Archivist Theron, who actively seeks out new knowledge, Omnal is content to maintain the existing order, believing that the true value lies in preserving what has already been discovered. He shies away from controversy and avoids expressing strong opinions on matters of dogma or politics. He is the most prolific copyist in the Abbey, and his most recent work is a new Book of Tides.
One notable event in Omnal's life was his accidental discovery of a hidden chamber behind a bookshelf. Although the chamber was empty, Omnal meticulously documented its existence and location, adding it to the Abbey’s records. He also attempted to learn the Language of the Depths, with limited success. Perhaps he had a vision of the Great Unmaking, or what could lead to the creation of the Chitinous Swarm. It could be said that Omnal stands as a testament to the value of diligence and dedication, a reminder that even the smallest contributions can play a vital role in preserving the past for future generations.
