The Star-Eaters
The Star-Eaters are less creatures of mundane biology and more existential parasites, manifesting directly from the chaotic remnants described in the forbidden texts of the Chapter of Starfall. They are believed to be solidified stellar debris from the celestial order breaking down—a direct consequence of the catastrophic power attempts by the ancient Sky-Seers. Their appearance is disturbing: they resemble immense, segmented arachnids composed of cooling stellar dust, their carapaces faintly glowing with extinguished starlight. They are found exclusively at extreme altitudes in the high peaks of the Iron-Grip Mountains, particularly near geological foci sensitive to cosmic alignment, such as the observatories noted in the Book of Seeing. These entities do not feed on organic matter. Their diet is purely energetic, consuming residual cosmic light and, more alarmingly, organized, channeled energy—especially sources of untainted Auric Resonance. Their presence accelerates the decay of reality itself, serving as biological agents of the Great Unmaking, hastening entropy across the mountain range. Historically, the most perilous prophecy regarding them involves the Sunstone of Aethelgard. Prophecies in the ancient records warn that if the Sunstone is bombarded by destabilized stellar matter during a Celestial Collapse, the Star-Eaters will be drawn to it like starving moths, seeking to consume its immense power and invert its protective purpose. They also seem to actively target the structured energy fields, such as those that once powered the Aerilon Ascendancy, accelerating cultural amnesia and ensuring that the lessons of the past are consumed by shadow. This is why meticulous record-keeping, as practiced within the Dwarven Abbey, remains our most resilient shield against the total consumption they represent.
