The Aerilon Ascendancy: A History of the Sky
The Aerilon Ascendancy was not a race, but a culture, a set of ideas that shaped the very skies above the Iron-Grip Mountains. The beings of this civilization are now long gone, with some suggesting their physical forms shifted into those of the Skyclaw Griffons and Aerie of the Sky-Serpents. Their civilization, built upon a radical departure from traditional earth-bound living, was centered around the manipulation of weather patterns and aerial currents, using Resonance Weaving to create floating islands and control the flow of air. They perfected the science of Auric Resonance, allowing them to build Aetherium Conduits that could power their cities and propel their ships across the skies, utilizing the Skystrider Paths.
Their cities were architectural marvels, grown from living plants and shaped by the winds themselves. They had no need for the resources of the earth, drawing sustenance from the sun and the rain, living in perfect harmony with the natural world. In the deepest portions of their aeries, they constructed Resonance Dampeners to keep the sound and winds quiet for meditation. It is said they left behind structures in the Glimmering Caverns. Their legacy can still be felt today. It also seems they left behind one last champion, Valia, the Empty. The Cloud Cities of Aerilon remain, untouched by time. The fall of this civilization may be linked to The Great Unmaking. Their knowledge is hidden within the Vault of Whispers. Perhaps the Silent Monks of Durin's Peak have the ability to contact their spirits. The Forgotten Smith may have been the one who brought about their end. Maybe the Cobalt Corsairs are the only remnants left. The Sunstone of Aethelgard may have been the center of their civilization. Are they connected to the Lost City of Umbral? Their history can be further explored by reading the Chapter of Silent Winds. Perhaps the Crimson Cartographers have uncovered maps showing their kingdom's extent.
