The Chapter of Sound

From a recovered scroll, tattered and stained with what appears to be Gloomfungus, I, Torvin Stonehand, record the existence of a text referred to only as the Chapter of Sound. It is not, from what I can gather, a treatise on acoustics, but a compendium of sonic anomalies, a collection of recordings and observations that defy easy explanation.

Unlike Elder Borin's Chronicles, which seeks to document history, the Chapter of Sound seeks to capture the unexplainable. Some entries speak of voices echoing from within the Aetherium Fount, whispers that seem to predate the dwarves themselves. Others detail the strange humming emanating from the Silent Forges, a resonance that cannot be detected by conventional means. One troubling segment focuses on the Cacophony, an entity born of sound. It may provide clues on how to construct the Aural Monolith.

The text also contains diagrams of various sonic devices, some crude, others impossibly complex, which may have been constructed by the Gnomish Tinkers. Was the Forgotten Smith also an audiophile? I wonder what connection this has to Auric Resonance. There is a particularly troubling entry about something called a "Resonance Drone", which seems to be a creature made of pure sound. The Truthseekers should examine the implications of the findings. I also wonder, could the Cobalt Corsairs adapt this knowledge for their airships? The Silent Monks of Durin's Peak may be able to decipher some of the unknown language in the book, perhaps the Language of Madness. The Chapter of Sound is a puzzle box of auditory oddities, a challenge to our understanding of the world and the forces that shape it.
