The Obsidian Labyrinth
The Obsidian Labyrinth is not a single, fixed location, but a shifting, ever-changing network of tunnels and chambers formed entirely of polished obsidian. It is said to exist somewhere deep within the Iron-Grip Mountains, constantly reforming itself and defying all attempts at mapping. The air within is thick with a strange, static energy, and the silence is so profound it can be deafening. Many believe it is an artificial structure, perhaps created by a forgotten race predating even the dwarves, constructed to house some unimaginable power or to guard a terrible secret. The Crimson Cartographers have legends that speak of "The Shifting Maze," but they dismiss the legends as madness from staring at stone for too long.
Within its depths, the laws of physics seem to bend and break. Hallways twist at impossible angles, gravity shifts without warning, and time itself becomes distorted. Explorers who venture too deep often find themselves lost, wandering for years only to emerge moments later, or vice versa. Some say that the Labyrinth is a sentient entity, testing those who dare to enter, rewarding the worthy with knowledge and punishing the unworthy with oblivion. The Shadow-Goblins are said to avoid the Labyrinth, sensing its alien nature and fearing its power. The Labyrinth's obsidian walls hum with residual Auric Resonance, warped and twisted by the Labyrinth's strange geometry. The Gnomish Tinkers would be driven mad by the impossibilities within, constantly attempting to create a map that would immediately become obsolete. The Order of the Azure Hand believes the Labyrinth is a source of chaotic energy and seeks to seal it off completely. Is it possible that the Forgotten Smith created this impossible zone? Perhaps, a key to controlling the Chitinous Swarm is buried deep inside. It is rumored that The Silent Monks of Durin's Peak can navigate the Labyrinth by listening to the vibrations of the obsidian. The Sunstone of Aethelgard pulses faintly when brought near an entrance, as if sensing a kindred spirit. The Cobalt Corsairs have lost entire airship expeditions searching for an entrance. The Vault of Whispers may be connected to the Labyrinth through secret tunnels. The Labyrinth may be a gateway to The Lost City of Umbral. The entrance to the labyrinth may be hidden in the Glimmering Caverns. Perhaps Elder Borin's Chronicles details a way to control the space?
